4th of July Cookie Bars

These 4th of July cookie bars bake up soft, buttery, chewy, and packed with red, white, and blue candy color. They’re an easy one-pan dessert for cookouts, fireworks nights, and summer parties.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 cup red white, and blue chocolate candies
  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup patriotic sprinkles plus more for topping

Method
 

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Line a 9x13-inch metal baking pan with parchment paper, leaving extra over the sides.
  3. Lightly spray the parchment paper.
  4. Whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  5. Add the eggs and vanilla.
  6. Whisk until the mixture looks glossy.
  7. Stir the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl.
  8. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  9. Stop mixing once no dry streaks remain.
  10. Fold in the red, white, and blue chocolate candies, white chocolate chips, and patriotic sprinkles.
  11. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  12. Add extra candies and sprinkles on top.
  13. Bake for 24 to 29 minutes.
  14. The bars are done when the edges look golden and the top looks set.
  15. A toothpick should show moist crumbs, not raw batter.
  16. Cool the bars fully before slicing into squares.
